A heart that’s like a child

Will never fear the worst,

It thrives on dreams and happiness

And putting others first.

It does not bear long grudges

Neither keep a jealous eye,

Nor rejoice in other’s downfall,

Nor gossip, poke or pry.

It is filled up with excitement

Bubbling with hope,

It does not sulk or grumble

Nor object, lament or mope.

Its mood is one of joy,

At life’s most simple pleasures

And peace and satisfaction

Are amongst its valued treasures.

It is packed full of contentment,

Sweet cheerfulness besides –

And so fiercely optimistic

That suspicion runs and hides.

It is enduringly harmonious

And patient to a fault

So profoundly magnanimous

That belligerence must bolt.

It is tipsy with the giggles –

A package full of glee

So that darkness and depression

Can only turn and flee.

It shows unassuming innocence,

Great kindness and veracity

Compassionate benevolence,

And gracious hospitality.

It is unpolluted by the world

With its vile, selfish desires,

It contends strongly against hatred

Faces oppressors, bullies, liars.

It will stand up for the defenceless

With no thought for itself,

No fear of injury or illness

Nor damage to its health.

It is brimming over with goodness

Displays faithfulness galore,

It has gentleness in abundance

And generosity at its core.

So strive ye not for riches

Nor honour, nor acclaim,

But set your heart on childlikeness

For there is much to gain

In seeking trust and simplicity –

For truthfulness to thirst

To be acquainted with honesty

In forgiveness richly versed.

May you know the charms of sincerity,

The delights of mercy and grace

And above all in quiet serenity

Love’s beauty now embrace.
